Multiple crash on bypass

At least four motorists were involved in a four-vehicle pile-up on the Mriehel bypass yesterday morning, but fortunately escaped without really serious injury.

The police said the accident occurred at around 7.50 a.m. on Triq is-Sebh in Qormi in the lane heading to Attard, when a Ford Transit, driven by a 27-year-old from Luqa, crashed into three stationary cars.

A 41-year-old man from Marsascala sustained the worst injuries, breaking his nose on impact, while his car, a Kia, was extensively damaged, ending sandwiched between the others. The police said the man was taken to hospital.

The other vehicles involved in the accident were only slightly damaged.
