A Qormi man was yesterday charged with employing a Libyan without a permit.

Mario Zahra, 45, pleaded not guilty to employing the immigrant without a permit at the Little Sisters of the Poor home for the elderly last Wednesday.

The Libyan, Walid A. Mehemed Elhaj El Mehdi, 21, pleaded guilty to working in Malta without a permit and being here without leave from the immigration authorities.

He was given a six-month jail term suspended for a year. El Mehdi came to the notice of the authorities when he was injured while working.

Police Inspectors Mario Bonello and Sandro Zarb prosecuted.
