Peppi Azzopardi boasts (No-vember 7) of keeping strict political balance on his Xarabank programme. Recently he invited EU commissioner Guenther Verheugen on his programme. Now we have been informed that an EU-critic, MEP Jeus Peter Bonde, will be on his programme in January. Were it to stop there, Mr Azzopardi would have every right to claim "strict political balance".

But this is not the case. Xarabank's presenter has already announced that EU Commission president Romano Prodi has also been invited to appear on the programme. That will make it two-to-one in favour of the pro-EU campaign.

As if that were not enough "balance" Mr Verheugen is expected to make another visit to our island much nearer to the referendum date. When that happens, and Mr Verheugen is again invited on the Xarabank programme, the "political balance" would be further enhanced.

Mr Azzopardi will then be able to challenge anybody to prove that he is not keeping "strict political balance" on his Friday show!
