An exhibition of paintings by the Dutch artist Rineke Engwerda was opened last Wednesday at the National Museum of Fine Arts.

Born in 1974, Ms Engwerda has, since the beginning of her young career, focussed her expressive research around a controversial approach to the definition of what is real, choosing as her personal visual language the photo-realistic painting contaminated by pop-culture elements.

Ms Engwerda's exhibition of paintings was inaugurated by the Netherlands Ambassador, Robert Loudon, who flew to Malta for the occasion. The exhibition was made possible by the sponsorship of the Dutch Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of the Netherlands and the Dutch City of Hengelo; the exhibition curator is Stefano Catalani, who has already brought other visiting artists to the Museum of Fine Arts. The paintings will be on display in the Loggia of the Museum, every day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until December 18 (closed on public holidays). Entrance is free.
