Safety Week at the Westin

Every year in October and November, Starwood Hotels worldwide participate in a week of safety, security and environmental health-related activities.

The safety week is the time when all Starwood Hotels can review and up-date all their safety, security and environmental health programmes, and refresh their training and certifications.

This year's theme chosen by Starwood for the annual Safety, Security and Environmental Health Week is "Be Alert, Be Aware, Be Prepared: Be Safe".

Starwood Hotels and Resorts is represented in Malta by the Westin Dragonara Resort.

At the Westin Dragonara Resort, during the week starting November 18, activities like the relaunching of the Health and Safety Handbook and educational sessions were held.

Sedqa represenatives delivered lectures to Westin associates on the effects of alcohol and drugs, while first aid and fire-fighting demonstrations were led by qualified members of the Westin Dragonara Resort staff.

Other topics covered hotel evacuation, risk assessments and general safety rules. Information boards with health and safety posters and other material were put up.

Associates were also invited by the Westin Dragonara Resort Fitness Centre to attend for some physical exercises.

These activities are being co-ordinated by the human resources department in collaboration with the health and safety committee.
