The Bobby Charlton School, a renowned sports organisation promoting youth football led by the veteran England World Cup winner Bobby Charlton himself and credited with introducing its most famous pupil, David Beckham, will be coming to our shores next month.
The school offers weekday, weekend and school holiday courses designed to make practising co-ordination and teamwork fun by turning a sports pitch into a cross between a theme park and an adventure playground. It is a computer game on legs with plenty of healthy action.
The concept has already travelled well with courses taking place in various countries. However, besides the United States, Malta is the first permanent base for the school which will be held at St Andrew's FC where the all-weather pitches will be used.
In Malta, qualified personnel from the UK will run the school, which is designed to appeal for all ages. There will also be sessions for parents to help them coach their children.
The opening course is scheduled for the Christmas holidays. Chief school co-ordinator in Malta, Paul Falzon, has already reported a strong response and the entry list so far looks more than encouraging. Falzon may be contacted for more details on 21-376652.
