Rueben André de Gabriele, of Balzan, has won the Youth of the Year 2002 award.

The 11th edition of the national award was organised recently at the Ta' Cenc Hotel in Gozo by the OASI Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo, the Parliamentary Secretariat for Youth and Sports, and the National Youth Council.

The primary aim of the award is to acknowledge the praiseworthy philanthropic voluntary work by many young people in the community without any personal interests or expectations.

Mr de Gabriele won the award in recognition for his constant work in the community, especially among youths, and for the leadership, initiative, and creativity he shows in the work he does at Balzan Youth Centre and Balzan parish council.

The five other nominees were: Rudolph Cauchi nominated by Ghajnsielem local council; Maria Micallef nominated by STAND Group (Striving Towards Ability Not Disability); Mario Sammut nominated by the Eden Foundation; Adriano Spiteri nominated by Fergha Ewkaristika, and Paula Vella nominated by the Eden Foundation.
