Ghajnsielem 3
Xaghra United 2

\n

In a fast-moving and entertaining match, both teams went all out in search of goals to claim all three points at stake. In the end, however, Ghajnsielem were more composed and this, perhaps, won them the day.

They had an excellent start and opened the score through Dione Lautier after two minutes. Xaghra's Camilleri squandered a golden opportunity after 16 minutes when he fired wide from a good position but just before the break Krasten Krastev made it 1-1.

The match was even now, with some fluid play being the order of the day. In the 64th minute Ghajnsielem regained the lead with a Tarik Belhaj goal. Then, the Blacks were unlucky as two separate attempts by Dimitrov were both stopped by the woodwork.

Nineteen minutes from time, Xaghra hit their second equaliser through John Camilleri following a fast break. But their joy was short-lived as five minutes later Errol Grima placed the ball behind Agius with an angled drive.

The two teams finished with 10 players when Grima and Camilleri were sent off for dissent. Xaghra tried desperately hard to save the match but Ghajnsielem closed all gaps to win 3-2.

Zebbug Rovers 0
Xewkija Tigers 1

This was Xewkija's third consecutive victory to move to the third placing in the standings.

Before kick-off, the two teams started on the same number of points and were both aiming to close the gap with the top teams at the end of the first round.

After a balanced opening half, it was Zebbug who saw more of the ball on the changeover but failed to trouble the Xewkija rearguard. On the other hand, the Tigers were working out some effective fast breaks and right on the hour, substitute Mark Camilleri found the net after some fine work from Rais.

Zebbug produced an immediate reaction but it was Conti who could have settled the issue only for his finishing to let him down with only the Rovers keeper to beat.

Qala SJ 0
Victoria Hotspurs 2

Victoria Hotspurs completed their first round commitments on a very good note by obtaining their second championship victory at the expense of bottom-placed Qala. It was a deserved victory for Victoria which matured with two goals from Justin Sacco, one in each half.

Early on, an attempt by Sacco hit the post and from the rebound Mercieca shot wide. However, Sacco opened the score in the 13th minute with an accurate shot from the edge of the area after he was put through by Nkwocka.

With Qala failing to stage a comeback, it was Victoria who made sure of the three points in the 71st minute with another Sacco goal, this time guiding the ball inside an empty net to conclude Nkwocka's fine run.

Sannat sole leaders

Sannat Lions took sole leadership with maximum points from three matches in the GFA Division Two.

In their last match, the Lions beat St Lawrence 2-1, the goals coming from Abdul Mutalib and Mark Muscat. Aldo Formosa had partially drew both teams level in the 31st minute.

In another match Kercem Ajax and SK Victoria Wanderers shared the spoils in a disappointing goalless draw.
