Teatru Unplugged, the established annual appointment with a blend of live music in the unique baroque setting of the Manoel Theatre, enters its fifth year on December 13, 14 and 15, adding innovative touches to its already winning formula.
Like its previous editions, the event promises to contain all the ingredients it is renowned for: "the fresh outlook of young talent in a classical setting; fun for both the artistes and audience and smooth spontaneity..."
Building on its past successes and popularity, other surprises are also being lined up, introducing acts the Manoel Theatre has never staged before.
For the first time ever, the theatre is to hear the sounds of turntables and "scratching", with DJs U-Bahn, two trained and qualified musicians, who produce and mix their own music. In the finale, U-Bahn is bringing dance music techniques, which have been around for the last 20 years, into the Manoel Theatre for the first time through Teatru Unplugged.
For the first time too, Teatru Unplugged's repertoire is also incorporating dance, with Rosanna Maya's flamenco nuevo "experiment", accompanied by the cello and flamenco guitar. A deviation from traditional flamenco, the dance is a fusion of classical and contemporary styles.
The fifth edition includes new faces, such as solo guitarist, Fraser, with his "intimate" music, blues and jazz by Ivan Filletti and Lynn Chircop on piano and vocals. Established musicians are also taking part such as Gianni, who is performing a duo with Anthony Spiteri, and the band Tiara, whose lead vocalist is Ira Losco.
The fifth edition is being compered by Emma Mattei.
