The first group of illegal immigrants' children started schooling on Monday, Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg told parliament yesterday.
The minister told Mr Mario Galea (PN) in reply to a parliamentary question that he hoped more children would start schooling soon and more schools would offer their facilities for such children.
Dr Borg confirmed that the children underwent health checks before being sent to school.
He said that organising schooling for the children of illegal immigrants was not easy, particularly as several of them never went to school.
