President Guido de Marco yesterday urged European young people to work for a Europe of culture in the context of unity within diversity.
He told the concluding session of the general assembly of the European Youth Forum, meeting in Malta, that young people should work to eliminate economic divides.
He said that while globalisation was a reality, certain principles had to be observed, such as that there should be no exploitation of the people and resources of the poor countries.
He also spoke on the importance of the Mediterranean in European affairs.
The forum, grouping some 200 delegates of youth organisations from all over Europe, met between Thursday and yesterday to discuss the role of young people in a globalised world.
Malta was represented by the National Youth Council (KNZ) and Italian Giacomo Fillibeck was elected the new president.
KNZ president Keith Psaila said this was the first time that the forum had met anywhere other than Brussels. The council incorporates 38 youth organisations which between them represent about 30,000 members aged between 14 and 30.
