Radio-controlled model aircraft exhibition today

The Malta Model Aircraft Flying Association is holding an indoor exhibition of radio-controlled model aircraft at the Sala Madonna tal-Karmnu of the Discalced Carmelites, next to the Sanctuary of St Therese in Birkirkara being held today between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The aircraft exhibited are intended to familiarise visitors with what the hobby has to offer and to show to anyone who is interested what is available today to start the challenging sport of building and flying radio controlled model aircraft.

The various disciplines such as sport flyers, replica scale models, show flyers, aerobatic competition, helicopters and gas turbine-powered (jet engine) models will be represented. Visitors will surely be impressed by the workmanship, and size of the models when viewed at such close quarters.

Radio-controlled model aircraft is a recognised sporting activity, and is governed by the same organisation covering air sports, which is the Federation Aeronautique Internationale.

Members present will only be too glad to answer any questions prospective beginners have in relation to what model aircraft types and ground support equipment is required to start up. It will be pleasantly discovered, firstly, that the initial investment is very much within everybody's reach, and secondly, that this will open the way to new discoveries and achievements. The thrill of watching your creations taking off, flying and coming back to land is difficult to describe.

Visitors will also be able to try their hand at flying a radio-controlled model comfortably indoors and without causing any damage whatsoever. Try it on the big screen flight simulator being set up at the exhibition.

However, visitors should be warned that this is a highly addictive activity - expect to want more!
