HSBC BANK Malta plc has launched a new training programme for its senior managers, entitled "Developing Managerial Skills".
Chief operating officer Tim Fitzpatrick said the programme aimed to help managers understand the importance of their role and responsibilities as well as help them broaden their knowledge of managing themselves and others.
Mike Sinnett, HSBC's training and development manager, said: "The programme is probably the most important training programme that senior managers can attend. It uses subordinate and line manager feedback as a foundation to provide the participants with the opportunity to practise and develop the skills and behaviours essential for effective people management and task achievement."
The training uses the technique of 'experiential learning' where participants undertake an activity and then analyse the experience in terms of skills that can be transferred back to the workplace. Some of these activities take place outdoors so that participants get an opportunity to learn in a different environment.
The training programme is based on a similar programme run throughout the HSBC Group. Following a visit to the UK, HSBC Bank Malta's management skills training manager Louise Agius, with the help of the local training team, adapted it to meet the specific needs of HSBC managers in Malta.
"This exciting and challenging programme completes the series of training programmes that are available for managers within HSBC Bank Malta plc. Similar programmes have already been run for junior managers and supervisory staff, ensuring a consistent approach to people management in the bank," concluded Mr Sinnett.
