Having just returned home from a holiday in Malta I decided to bring to your attention some of the concerns my wife and I share over what we believe are environmental health issues.

My wife and I have holidayed in Malta for the past 20 years and have been impressed by the development of upper Bugibba, with new roads, paths and the promenade from St Paul's Bay to Qawra - appreciated by locals and tourists alike.

Unfortunately, on our recent visit, we were shocked to see the disgusting state of rubbish/detritus left on side roads up to upper Bugibba and along the front to Qawra Point, which we feel poses a health and safety problem.

Travelling around the island it is noticeable that the St Paul's Bay, Qawra and upper Bugibba areas are the worst affected by deposits of rubbish.

This will not deter us from continuing to visit our favourite holiday island, which we have enjoyed for so many years, but we feel that the conditions we witnessed could have a potentially damaging effect on the island's tourist trade and may deter holidaymakers from making a return visit.
