Din l-Art Helwa has produced an educational interactive CD-ROM 'Malta: A treasure trove of history" for distribution in all schools. It has been financed through The Times Mnajdra Fund.

Education Minister Louis Galea praised the initiative when he received the CD-ROM from DLH executive president Martin Scicluna and said that it would be of great help to schoolchildren and others who were interested in the cultural heritage of Malta.

Dr Galea said the education division would ensure that it would be used regularly.

The CD-ROM is the second phase of DLH's continuing educational campaign to help children love Malta's cultural heritage and learn to safeguard it.

The first phase was the launch of a complete set of videos entitled 'Wirt fil-Periklu' (Heritage in Peril) which was also distributed to each school.

The CD-ROM is complemented by a teacher's guide which has been designed to help teachers prepare their lessons.

The CD-ROM introduces students to over 25 of Malta's historic sites.

Mr Scicluna said DLH hoped that the CD-ROM, which is in English, would make the children want to visit the sites to learn more about what Malta has to offer.

The Times had launched the appeal following the attack on the temples on April 13, Good Friday, 2000. The sum raised was handed over to Din L-Art Helwa.

Din l-Art Helwa's council had considered a range of ideas for utilising the money and one of the projects chosen was an education campaign to be carried out at all schools.
