Marsaxlokk vs Hibs today

Hibernians are expected to put the Super Five Cup final upset behind them this evening at the Centenary Stadium by beating newcomers Marsaxlokk and step up their title defence as the focus in local football shifts back to the Premier League.

This match, along with Mosta-Valletta originally scheduled for last Sunday at the Tedesco Stadium, was put back to today as the pitch at the Hamrun ground was still waterlogged after the midweek deluge. Valletta face Mosta tomorrow.

Birkirkara trounced the Paolites 4-1 in Thursday's Super Five Cup final. But, with coach Robert Gatt likely to field his strongest formation today, it will take Marsaxlokk one mighty effort to deny Hibs from a third win on the trot which catapulted them back in the reckoning.

Another three points today would push the champions to within striking distance of leaders Sliema Wanderers.

Marsaxlokk have shown signs of improvement since new coach J.J. Aquilina took over last month. They look capable, at least, of avoiding a similar 4-0 drubbing suffered in the corresponding first round fixture against Hibs.

Young Brandon Zammit is the only injury doubt for Aquilina as the midfielder is suffering from a knee injury. Otherwise, the coach has a full complement at his disposal but is expected to make a few changes to the side that lost to Valletta 5-3 in the previous match.

Programme:

Today: (Centenary Stadium) 6.30 p.m. Marsaxlokk vs Hibernians.

Tomorrow: (Centenary Stadium) 6.30 p.m. Mosta vs Valletta.
