Members from the Slovenian Federation of Beekeepers recently paid a visit to Malta where they inspected the archaeological remains of the apiary at Imgiebah, limits of Mellieha.

They were led by Franc Sivic, vice-president of the federation. Mgr Janez Gril, an official representative of the Slovenia Catholic Press, was with the group.

During the visit, the late Slovenian beekeeper, Peter Pavel Glavar, who was the author of the first book on bee keeping in Slovenia was commemorated with a film of his life.

The next World Congress of Beekeepers will be held in Lubljana, Slovenia in August, 2003.

The president of the Federation of Italian Beekeepers, Raffaele Cirone, said when he was in Malta with the Slovenian group that the congress would be another occasion to speak about Malta and its splendid, apiarist archaeological treasures.
