A study tour focusing on specific aspects of Western art history is an important feature of the course catalogue of the History of Art Programme of the Faculty of Arts.
This is an intensive two-credit study unit consisting of on-site lectures in museums and on monuments and sites of conspicuous art historical interest. BA Honours, MA, and other History of Art candidates are strongly encouraged to register for it, and academically oriented guest participants are welcomed.
The study tour for academic year 2001-02, held in the last week of September, focused on the art of the Apulia and Basilicata regions of South Italy which have an unsuspected wealth of rock-cut, Norman-Romanesque, and Baroque architecture.
The on-site lectures were delivered by Professor Mario Buhagiar and other academic members of the staff of the History of Art Programme. Student participants were subsequently examined by research projects on the various monuments and sites.
The study tour for academic year 2002-03 will be held in March and focus on the art and architecture of Normandy.
