The gross domestic product in the 15 EU member states grew by 0.4 per cent in the second quarter this year, Eurostat reported.
Eurostat is the statistical office of the European Commission. In comparison with the second quarter of 2001, the GDP grew by 0.8 per cent.
The GDP in the euro-zone grew by 0.4 per cent as well during the second quarter of 2002 while during the same period the previous year, the GDP grew by 0.7 per cent.
The euro-zone is made up of 12 EU member states, Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain.
Figures published by the National Statistics Office of Malta indicate that the country's GDP increased by 2.2 per cent in the second quarter of 2002 when compared to the same quarter last year.
