RN frigate due

The Royal Navy frigate HMS Argyll will pay an informal visit to Malta from November 13 to 18.

The Argyll, 4,200 tons, is the third frigate of the Duke class which forms the mainstay of the Royal Navy's surface fleet. Ships of this type carry the Harpoon missile system and a range of anti-aircraft, anti-missile and anti-submarine systems as well as a helicopter.

HMS Argyll, under the command of Commander John Kingwell RN, is returning from patrol duties in the Arabian gulf.

During the visit to Malta, the ship's company will take part in organised sports events including rugby, golf, cricket, squash and football.

The ship is also supporting a charity five-a-side football tournament being organised by the British High Commission in aid of Ir-Razzett tal-Hbiberija.

They will be entering a team into the tournament being held on Saturday, November 16, at the Marsa Sports Ground.

The ship will not be open to the public.
