Singer Miriam Christine Borg is to be the main guest at Festa Calypso 2002, a festival to be held in Toronto for the Maltese-Canadian community by the Gozo Club.

The event, on November 30, is expected to bring together hundreds of Maltese and Gozitans from various cities in North America.

"Our goal is to provide our audience with a spectacular show of contemporary Maltese and local stage and music artists", said Joe Camilleri, president of the Gozo Club.

"We try to promote our Maltese-Canadian emerging artistes, of whom we have quite a few, and also provide the audience with entertainment from established Maltese artistes".

"We came up with the name Festa Calyspo because Maltese immigrants have fond memories of the village and towns "festas". We will try to rekindle some of those memories", said Mr Camilleri.

This will be the fourth annual Festa Calypso. The first, in 1999, was held to mark the 25th anniversary of the foundation of the Gozo Club in Toronto.

This year is also a special year for the Gozo Club since it is opening a new office in Toronto located in the heart of what is known as the Maltese Village.

The Miriam Christine show is sponsored by the Canada representative office of Bank of Valletta.
