Tenor Giuseppe Giacomini will be performing Verdi's Requiem and Te Deum at the Teatru Astra during the Mediterranea Festival being held in Gozo later this month.
The week-long festival of culture, tradition and folklore is being organised for the first time by Teatru Astra between November 22-29 to celebrate Gozo's 7,000 years of unique culture.
Giacomini is set to thrill patrons on November 29 for what promises to be one of the major Verdi events ever to be staged in the Maltese islands.
This is the first time that one of the greatest tenors of all time has been engaged to perform in the Maltese islands.
Blessed with a baritone-like timbre and ringing and sustained high notes, Giacomini has taken up the demanding and dramatic roles spanning the German, French and Italian repertoire with astonishing ease.
Giacomini will feature alongside soprano Pamela Kucenic, mezzo-soprano Emilia Boteva Samuel de Palma on bass, the St George's Basilica Laudate Pueri Choir and the National Orchestra under the direction of Prof. Joseph Vella.
The Mediterranea Festival will also feature the staging of Verdi's opera Un Ballo in Maschera on November 22 and 24.
The festival will include a symphonic band concert by La Stella Band, a piano recital by Young Choon-Park, an evening of Prehistory at Ggantija, ethnic music by Etnika and daily morning visits featuring churches, museums, panoramic sights, and Gozo's prehistoric culture organised by Gozo's Heritage Society Wirt Ghawdex.
