Professors Anthony Frendo and Anthony Bonanno have given lectures on Malta's past at the conference hall of the Tripoli museum. The lectures formed part of a Maltese cultural programme organised by the Maltese embassy in Tripoli.

Prof. Frendo spoke on "The megaliths and the Phoenician period" while Prof. Bonanno spoke on "Roman Malta".

The audience was made up of Libyan scholars, diplomats and members of the public, including a number of Maltese and visiting tourists.

Malta's Ambassador to Libya, Dr Richard Vella Laurenti, introduced the two speakers and referred to Malta's rich cultural heritage.

Dr Ali Al-Khadouri, chairman of the Board of Antiquities in Libya, attended the two lectures.

Prof. Bonanno and Dr Al-Khadouri discussed areas of cooperation between the Board of Antiquities and the University of Malta.

Dr Al-Khadouri recalled his recent visit to Malta and had words of praise for the Malta Centre for Restoration with which the Board of Antiquities in Libya intends to collaborate.

During their visit in Libya, the two professors visited the Roman city of Leptis Magna and other places of interest around Tripoli.
