Hold-up at Qawra

A man was injured when he was held up in Qawra yesterday evening by two armed persons who stole a pouch containing Lm1,300 and £2,000 in cash, police said.

The police said they were holding a man from Qawra to help them in their investigations.

The hold-up took place in Triq il-Kurazza at 7.30 p.m. when Joseph Mary Portelli was parking his car in front of his house.

He was jumped by two persons wearing hoods and armed with a knife. They snatched his pouch which also contained a BOV cheque book and some documents.

The two then got away in a beige Metro in which another person had been waiting.

Duty Magistrate Giovanni Grixti appointed various experts to help in an inquiry.
