The Court of Criminal Appeal has revoked a judgment in which the Magistrates' Court ordered that a man who failed to pay maintenance to his wife and children be detained for a month.

Emanuel Bugeja had appealed from the judgment on the grounds that the Second Hall of the Civil Court decree on which the charge against him had been based was null and, thus, he could never have been found guilty.

The appeal court, presided over by the Chief Justice Vincent De Gaetano, upheld the appeal, revoked the judgement and acquitted Bugeja.
