Since you went away
And never goes away.
We simply miss you
More than words can say, mum.
Life is dull and flat
Without you nothing
Quite the same
We can't say more than that.

It won't be long
This can't go on forever
We'll be happy soon, but only
When we are back altogether.

Miss you, mum. Theresa, M'Rose, Connie and their respective families.

British Chevening Scholarships

The British High Commission is calling for applications for British Chevening Scholarships for 2003/04.

British Chevening Scholarships, the UK's premiere scholarship scheme, allows scholars from all over the world to study at a British university of their choice.

Scholarships are offered for postgraduate courses in subjects such as politics, international relations, diplomacy, journalism, business and public administration, economics, law, management, telecommunications and financial services.

The Chevening scheme worldwide costs approximately £48 million per year and provides more than 2,000 scholarships a year in over 150 countries. British Prime Minister Tony Blair has undertaken to increase the total number of scholarships on offer by an additional 1,000 by 2005.

Chevening scholarships have been offered in Malta for the last 18 years. Malta receives approximately 10 to 13 Chevening Scholarships a year, the equivalent of one scholarship for every 29,000 people. This is a far higher proportion than is the case for almost every other country in which the scheme operates: 1 in 200,000 in Slovenia, 1 in 5.7 million in Italy, 1 in 13 million in Bangladesh!

This comparatively high number of scholarships can be maintained thanks in part to the generous co-sponsorship provided by many Maltese and UK business institutions.

All Maltese nationals wishing to apply for a Chevening Scholarship may collect an application form from the British Council, Whitehall Mansions, Ta' Xbiex Seafront, Ta' Xbiex or download it from the internet at www.britain.com.mt

For any enquiries, call tel. 2323 2403 on Monday, Wednesday or Friday mornings only, or email the British Council on information@britishcouncil.org.mt

The closing date for applications is Tuesday, December 10.
