A number of wardens converged on Rabat on Monday where a new traffic flow system was introduced and rather than educating motorists simply booked those who violated the new one-way system, Nationalist MP Tony Abela complained in parliament yesterday.

They were ill-mannered wardens, Notary Abela said, adding the police behaved differently and instead helped direct the traffic to follow the right direction.

He was highly critical of the new traffic flow system and said that more supervision by the police and wardens could have solved the problem the new system was supposed to be addressing.

He said the members of the traffic control board did not even know where Rabat was located as evidenced by the spelling of the roads listed in a letter to the local council. They did not even bother to consult the residents of the locality.

The board deserved to be deplored for the vile action it had decided to take. It was the rape of the Rabat business community, Notary Abela said. The board members should resign, he insisted.
