A Libyan tourist was yesterday charged with assaulting two men in Gzira last Saturday.

Mussa Awad, 26, pleaded not guilty to assaulting Stefan Vella and Dionysius Angelos Corito Williams at about 2 p.m., slightly injuring them and keeping and carrying a pointed instrument without a licence.

Awad explained he had come to Malta for three months to see his brother, who was married to a Maltese woman, and was living with him in Msida.

He was granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm1,000.

Police Inspectors Stephen Gatt and Neville Xuereb prosecuted.

Dr Leo Bencini appeared for Awad.
