Alex Borg and Simon Zammit returned to winning ways yesterday in the World Championships in Cairo after beating Mohamed Khayat (Egypt) and Joosub Yusuf (Mauritius) respectively with identical 4-0 scorelines.
Borg, who on Saturday lost to Habib Subah of Bahrain 4-3, is now through to the last 32. He is leading Group F, with seven wins, along with England's Martin Gould. Borg and Gould meet today in a match that will decide who will finish top of the group.
On Saturday, Zammit suffered his third defeat to Moshen Abdulaziz of Qatar 4-3. After his victory yesterday, he must now win his last two qualifiers to play in the next phase. Today he faces Group E leader Tim English of Wales before playing against Pang Wei Guo of China tomorrow.
Drago in B&H Championship last 32
Malta professional Tony Drago yesterday booked his place in the last 32 of the Benson & Hedges Championship after eliminating Shaun Murphy 5-3 at Mansfield.
The Valletta cueist, ranked 28 in the world list, will be vying for a place in the last 16 today when he takes on Stuart Bingham who defeated David Roe 5-2 to stay on course for the £6,000 pay-cheque, reserved for the winner of the tournament, and a wild-card entry for the B&H Masters in February.Newcomer Eden du Riva wins top race
