False passport charges

Two Syrian men were yesterday charged with presenting a forged passport on arrival.

Ali Kanaan, 32, was given a six-month jail term suspended for two years for using a forged passport, giving false information on arrival, receiving someone else's passport and being in Malta without leave from the immigration authorities on and before October 24.

He will be deported.

Ali Ibrahim, 30, was arraigned on the same charges but pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody.

Police Inspector Neville Xuereb prosecuted.
