The two-week European Film Festival kicks off on Thursday, launching a mix of critically-acclaimed movies from the continent.
The aim of the festival is to show the wide variety of European productions and to present to the Maltese public an ever-evolving European cultural heritage.
The films will be screened at the Eden Century Cinemas at 8.15 p.m. with the exception of two, which will be presented at the Citadel Theatre in Gozo on November 8 and November 9. Entrance will be Lm1.
Two family films, the Finnish film Tommy and the Wildcat and the Dutch film Molokai - The Story of Fr Damien, both in English, will also be screened at St James Cavalier on November 10 and 17 respectively.
The festival gets rolling with the Danish film Mifune, a bittersweet drama about the totally topsy-turvy coming together of a group of very different characters.
Another title worth looking out for is Sweden's Faithless, an emotional and riveting drama about three adults caught in a love triangle and the resulting devastating consequences.
Award-winning Spanish film The Fencing Master, a visually stunning and intellectually stimulating film from 1993, will be screened on November 3.
As in previous editions, the European Film Festival will raise funds for a good cause. This year proceeds will be in aid of Dar il-Kaptan, a respite home managed by the Foundation for Respite Care Services.
