As part of its junior development programme, the Malta Amateur Athletics Association (MAAA) has just secured a sponsorship agreement with Danone Ltd. Danone have agreed to support a new series of competitions for athletes under 12 years of age.

The Danone Kid Miniathlon will be an all-round test of athletic ability where children will take part in speed, endurance, jumping and throwing events which will be arranged in the form of enjoyable games. The first competition will take place at the Marsa Athletics Stadium tomorrow at 1.30 p.m.

National coaching co-ordinator Geoff Ward, with the assistance of local coaches, has designed a range of new and exciting events for young athletes.

While praising this initiative, Marie Therese Zammit, director of Danone Ltd, expressed her satisfaction at the professional way with which the MAAA is organising this series of events for children.

At the end of the season, each participant will receive a certificate showing the standard that he/she would have achieved.

Danone Kid Miniathlon forms part of the MAAA Star Track Development Programme that also includes community Come and Try Athletics activities, Sports Hall Athletics, Coach Education and Teacher Training. The European Athletics Association Development Programme is also assisting the Star Track initiative.

More information on these events may be obtained from David Vella on 21-383939 or 9947 1081.
