The Malta and Gozo Restaurants Association said a telephone survey among its members had shown that 69 per cent of those interviewed had seen a drop in sales between May and September. Ten per cent had seen sales rise, while performance remained unchanged for the rest.
Some members said they had had to lay off workers because of the drop in tourist arrivals and rising costs.
