Road designers to be updated on traffic accidents

The Transport Authority is working with the police on an updating of the traffic accidents reporting system so that road designers could receive better information on the cause of traffic accidents, Transport Minister Censu Galea said in reply to a parliamentary question yesterday.

He said the authority was in the near future expected to adopt a geographical information system to identify black spots and other deficiencies in road design so that measures could be taken to reduce the danger and better inform road users.

A total of 10,580 traffic accidents were reported to the police in the first nine months of this year. Twelve were fatal.

The information was requested by Labour MP Carmelo Abela.
