A 23-year-old man from Gudja is in a critical condition after he was involved in a traffic accident on Burmarrad Road yesterday afternoon.

Police said the injured man was riding a Kawasaki Ninja 900 motorbike towards Burmarrad shortly after 1.30 p.m when the motorcycle skidded, hit a car, and sent him under an oncoming coach.

The driver was taken out by rescue workers. There were several Maltese passengers on the coach at the time.

Duty Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani Grima appointed Dr Joe Micallef Stafrace, architect Richard Aquilina and mechanical expert Joe Zammit to assist in the inquiry.

In another accident yesterday, a van overturned with 10 passengers aboard, badly injuring one person.

The accident happened on a road leading to the Birkirkara bypass.
