A Sannat woman has been jailed for 60 days for the possession of heroin for sale.

Dorothy Refalo, 29, was found guilty of the possession of 3.387 grammes of heroin in circumstances denoting it was not for her personal use

She was also found guilty of the simple possession of 0.487 grammes of cocaine on and before December 22, 1999.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti heard how police stopped Refalo driving in Sannat, searched her car and found 12 sachets.

Refalo immediately cooperated with police and handed them another four sachets that were on her person. She even told them she had more drugs at home.

Refalo explained that she wanted to change her ways because she was sick of her way of life. She told police that she was on her way to sell the heroin for Lm220 to a man, whose identity she revealed, and said that she never sold cocaine.

On handing down judgment, Magistrate Grixti noted that Refalo had fully cooperated with police during their investigations and that she had a relatively clean criminal record.

He also noted that she was doing well in the drug rehabilitation programme and recommended to the director of prisons to provide Refalo with all the help to continue the programme.

Police Inspectors Maurice Curmi and Antonello Grech prosecuted.
