Aqua-Aerobics is an ideal exercise to ensure fitness and health and is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels, according to Michelle Borg.
Ms Borg, who is a qualified Speedo aquatic fitness instructor and has been teaching aqua-aerobics for two years, pointed out that the average person burns 450 to 700 calories during one hour of aqua-aerobics.
While water exercise has both physical and mental benefits, such as increasing circulation, flexibility and strength, it also builds up self-confidence.
Water provides buoyancy and support for the body, thus reduces impact on the joints when exercise is performed in the water. Water exercise conveniently appeals to both swimmers and nonswimmers alike.
More important than that is the fact that aqua-aerobics is an ideal choice of exercise for those who suffer from neck and back problems, or even obesity.
This is an ideal opportunity for those who may be too embarrassed to exercise on land and can feel more comfortable in the water. Aqua-aerobics is an activity which is fun and ideal to cool off as well.
Michelle is conducting both morning and afternoon sessions, being held on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, at the Hotel Fortina Spa Mediterranée in Sliema.
