The annual festival of culture organised by the Teatru Astra in Gozo, Mediterranea, is to be held from November 22 to 29.

Festival marketing director Anton Tabone, who recently announced the launch of the festival during a news conference in Munich, Germany, said Mediterranea brought the visitor close to everything which made up the island's history.

The musical highlights of the festival will be the opening night with Verdi's opera Un Ballo in Maschera on November 22 and the concluding night, also consisting of two of Verdi masterpieces, Te Deum and 'Requiem' on November 29.

Internationally acclaimed New York based artistic director Joseph Bascetta has been entrusted with the staging of the opera.

Tenor Giuseppe Giacomini will form part of a quartet comprising Pamela Kucenic (soprano), Emilia Boteva (mezzo) and Samuel de Palma (bass) for 'Requiem'.

Prof. Mro Joseph Vella will be conducting the National Orchestra of Malta throughout the festival.

Mediterranea seeks to promote cultural tourism for Gozo during the off-peak period through a series of high-quality cultural events.
