A 20-year-old man has been given a one-year jail term suspended for four years for threatening and assaulting five policemen five months ago.

Johan Sultana, of Sta Venera, also pleaded guilty to disobeying the three sergeants and two constables and damaging a uniform and a wristwatch in St Julian's on May 12 between 3.45 and 4.10 a.m.

Sultana also pleaded guilty to breaching the peace, breaching the conditions of a previous release and relapsing.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi ordered Sultana to pay for the damage within 30 days.

Police Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted.
