The objectives of the NSTS Malta Student Science Forum (MSST) are to train students aged 16 to 22, from post-secondary and tertiary educational institutions in Malta, in research, analysis and presentation, public speaking, debate, mutual respect, current science affairs, and to complement their formal education through discussion on relevant scientific, environmental and technological topics.
The National Student Travel Foundation (Malta) was set up in 1977 to organise, direct and develop social, educational and cultural exchanges for students, scholars and youths at all educational levels. Even today it still focuses on the expansion and improvement of services related to travel and the promotion of a better international understanding.
Among its science-related educational projects is the Malta Student Science Forum, held in collaboration with the Malta Chamber of Scientists, and now in its eighth year. It is primarily a debating forum which deals with current scientists who are specialized in the topic selected for the debate.
Student participants deliver a presentation which lasts about eight minutes. This is followed by a ten-minute discussion whereby participants have the opportunity to ask questions and put forward remarks on the delivered presentation and those delivering the presentation may reply. Participants are allotted points by a panel of judges. Over 400 students have benefited from the forum to date.
