A 16-year-old girl was slightly injured when she fell a height of one storey from a building under construction in Sliema on Tuesday night, while a 16-year-old boy who had accompanied her but was not found on the scene of the incident, suffered serious injuries, the police said.

The police could not elaborate on the nature of the boy's injuries, including how he received them.

Police investigations showed that the girl, from Sliema, was accompanied by the boy, from Swieqi, who for some reason left the scene of the accident in Old College Street when the police arrived.

A search ensued and he was found about three hours later at 11 p.m., metres away from Park Towers in Borg Olivier Street, St Julian's.

Police sources said it had not yet been established why the girl was still at the construction site, while the boy had left after calling the police. He could have been afraid, the sources said.

The girl, who was found at around 7.45 p.m., said she had lost consciousness and did not recall what happened.

A penknife and two school bags, with books scattered around, were found on the scene, police sources said.

Both teenagers were taken to hospital where the girl was found to be slightly injured and the boy more seriously.

Duty magistrate Carol Peralta appointed various experts to assist him in investigations, while police investigations are being carried out by the St Julian's district police and the CID, led by AC Emanuel Cassar.
