I have just come back after 30 years in Australia to live permanently in Malta. I noticed, obviously, a lot of changes and progress in all sectors of the island.

I have no car and have no intention of driving because you really have to be extra careful how to drive around the island.

I am forced to use public transport. I also noticed a slight improvement in the bus service in general.

The only thing that bothers me is that although they have the numbers for different areas, they do not have anything written on them that states where the bus is going.

Many times I noticed tourists on the bus stop asking the driver where such and such a bus is going. They either do not get an answer or a rude one.

I myself resorted to asking the driver the direction of certain buses, with the same result.

My intention in writing is to suggest that without any extra cost to the driver, who many times is the owner of the bus, he could write down on a piece of cardboard or whatever the destination of the bus and place it on the windscreen near the number of the bus.

I am sure that such a simple method would help a lot of newcomers to Malta, and the public.
