The collision left the Fiat in shambles

One man was critically injured and another five hurt in a collision between a car and a four-wheel drive vehicle in Floriana yesterday, police said.

A Fiat Tipo and a Suzuki Vitara collided in St Anne Street on the lane that leads to Valletta just beyond Portes de Bombes, a notorious black spot.

Police said the Fiat crossed the centre strip.

The man on the danger list is the Fiat's driver, who is from Zabbar.

The other persons - two more in the Fiat and three in the Suzuki - were all taken to hospital but were not reported to be seriously injured.

The Suzuki was being driven by a man from Zebbug.

The duty magistrate ordered an inquiry and appointed a number of experts to assist.

Valletta police are investigating.
