PM on Luxembourg's success

Eddie Fenech Adami yesterday said Luxembourg was testimony to how a small country like Malta could give its independence and sovereignty their highest value by joining the European Union. The country would take part in the decisions that would directly affect it whether or not it joined.

Speaking at the Annual General Meeting of the Nationalist Party's association of pensioners, the prime minister said that before joining the Union, Luxembourg's voice was not heard. Now it could stop things happening in the EU if it disagreed with them.

He also said that Luxembourg, whose prime minister has just visited Malta, had attained its high standard of living by joining the EU.
