This semester the University of Malta is hosting 120 European students under the EU's Erasmus programme, which funds student mobility among Europe's higher education institutions.
The students, who hail from dozens of different universities throughout Europe, were officially welcomed last Friday, when an orientation programme was organised to help them integrate themselves fully within the university.
The students were addressed by Dr Joseph Mifsud, Socrates office manager, Patricia Camilleri, principal communications officer, and Mary Anne Agius, counselling services.
The programme also included several other information sessions given by various entities at university, including the Socrates Office, the University Students' Council and NSTS. The students were also given a one-hour campus tour, including a visit to the sports complex.
The number of students participating in the Erasmus programme has been increasing throughout the years. Plans are currently underway in all participating countries, including Malta, to celebrate the one millionth Erasmus participant on October 25, 2002.
