The General Workers' Union yesterday directed workers at the stores of the Water Services Corporation not to have contact with, or supply material to, one of the corporation's contractors or his representatives unless they were accompanied by an official from the corporation's central administration.

In a statement, the union claimed a relative of the contractor assaulted a number of workers at one of the stores on Tuesday morning.

In a letter to the WSC chief executive, the union claimed this was at least the third time that this contractor or a relative had assaulted corporation officials or workers, including the corporation's chairman.

The WSC issued a statement condemning any form of threats or violence on its workers.

However, it said that immediately after the incident in question it had asked the workers involved to file a police report and be examined by a doctor, so that legal action could be taken against the alleged aggressors.

So far, the corporation had not received confirmation that the report had been made.

The corporation said that yesterday it also asked the union's section secretary to urge the workers to file a report.
