"No political significance"

George Abela, a former deputy leader of the Labour Party, insisted yesterday that meetings he has been having with former Prime Minister Dom Mintoff were only in his professional capacity as a lawyer.

Reports in a section of the print and broadcasting media yesterday said Dr Abela had been having meetings with the 86-year-old former Labour leader and that Dr Abela was seeking his political blessing.

Dr Abela said when contacted that he was being consulted as a lawyer by Mr Mintoff on private matters.
