Managing Time More Profitably

Time is a limited yet most valuable resource. Everyone, form a secretary to top management needs to know how to manage this scarce resource more efficiently and effectively.

This one-day seminar, led by Mr C.J. Falzon, senior lecturer at the Department of Management, would help participants identify how they spend their and other people's time. Moreover, they will discover how to achieve more with less; how to prioritise tasks, appreciate the importance and value of delegation, plan and schedule meetings for better results and dealing with disruption or interruptions. Better still, participants will learn how to release time for personal leisure and relaxation besides getting all tasks done.

This one-day course (to be held on October 17) is intended for all those who have to achieve results through others and plan their limited time to keep oneself and the organisation functioning smoothly.

Managing for Success: A course for middle management

The primary objective of this course is to educate the middle manager in various areas of management enabling one to contribute effectively to the goals of the organisation and to make the middle manager a more valuable member of the management team.

This highly interactive and participative programme covers various aspects of Organisation Dynamics, IR and Personnel Management, Accounting and Finance, MIS, Operations Management, Marketing Management and Strategic Management.

To qualify for the certificate, participants will be required to submit a project relating their personal experience and knowledge gained during the course to solving particular problems they come across at their place of work. The course starts on January 15.

Applied Business Statistics for Management

This 30-hour course scheduled to start on Saturday presents basic statistical techniques and their application for practical business decision-making and management. The emphasis of the course is on business applications, keeping the presentation of formal theory to the minimum required.

Case studies are presented, drawing also from the practical experiences of participants. The presentation is computer-based with practical cases being analysed and solved using a spreadsheet package.

This course will be of benefit to all students wishing to obtain an introduction to statistics, or to complement their theoretical knowledge with practical business applications.

Cost Reduction Techniques

Every executive and manager knows that cost reduction efforts are the key to the growth and prosperity of today's successful business in the current competitive market place.

This 30-hour course is aimed at executives, middle and senior managers in manufacturing and retail companies entrusted with responsibilities related to cost control, operations management, marketing and improved performance.

Special emphasis is laid on highlighting, reducing and eliminating whereever possible wasted time, materials, manpower, paperwork, clerical costs and general business inefficiencies without adversely impacting on customer satisfaction, quality levels, employee morale and profit potential. The course starts on October 22.
