The timber gate giving access to the Upper Barrakka garden in Valletta was considerably damaged as the result of a commercial activity held at the garden on Sunday night, the Valletta Rehabilitation Project said yesterday.

The VRP, which has often expressed concern about inappropriate use of the garden, has drawn up a report on the incident which has been sent to the Department of Agriculture.

The VRP said it was agreed five years ago with the department that commercial entities would be allowed to make use of the garden if their dignity was not compromised, and if the entities paid adequate compensation for the cost of maintenance.
