The annual inflation rate in the 15 member states of the EU rose from 1.8 per cent last July to 1.9 per cent last month. In August 2001, inflation was 2.4 per cent.

The figures were released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Communities, and distributed by the Malta-EU Information Centre.

The latest figures for Malta give an inflation rate of 3.39 per cent for last July, 0.15 per cent less than in the previous month.
